PSHE

Personal, Social, Health and Economic Education (PSHE), including Mental Health and Wellbeing, and Relationships and Sex Education (RSE)

“A growing body of research shows that emotionally healthy pupils do better at school. PSHE education helps children and young people achieve their potential by supporting their wellbeing and tackling issues that can affect their ability to learn, such as anxiety and unhealthy relationships.” PSHE Association

PSHE is central to children’s emotional and social development and therefore is essential in ensuring children can access the whole curriculum, and achieve their full potential. Amongst a host of other benefits, a well-planned and taught PSHE curriculum develops our pupils’ communication skills, confidence, ability to manage risks and emotional resilience.

As a catholic school, we work hard to offer our children a strong spiritual and moral base, and the catholic ethos of the school permeates PSHE lessons. We teach children about all protected characteristics through the lens of Catholic Social Teaching (CST); some of the themes are the dignity and rights of the human person, the importance of solidarity, participation, and caring for those less fortunate than ourselves. PSHE is taught both discretely and as part of RE, science, history, and other subjects.

PSHE lessons provide opportunities to celebrate each child as a unique individual and enable them all to appreciate and value the diversity of their community at a school, local and global level.
