Stars of the Week

Every week, each class teacher has the very difficult task of choosing 3 pupils to be the Stars of the Week (SOW). The SOWs are those children who have tried really hard to implement the St Swithun’s Star all week. They are presented with a certificate and congratulated by the school community at our Friday celebration assembly.

The star is introduced in Monday’s whole school assembly and often related to the Gospel reading of the week or to a growth mindset of courage, perseverance, bounce-back ability, self-improvement, or making a difference which gives the children something to focus on developing.

In rotation, each class suggests Mission Heroes. These are people from our local community or well-known national and international champions, who the children consider to symbolise the St Swithun’s Star of that week.  We have had many people chosen from our dinner ladies and many other staff, local parishioners who help the homeless to people making it against the odds, Greta Thunberg and many sporting icons.
